Email 8/31/10

Hola!

Well like ive said in my past two letters i could never do justice to everything that goes on here in one email in half an hour.  So i'm going to try but we will see.  First of all thank you everybody for your letters and for the packages.  It has been like mannah from heaven pouring down daily.  I think i had two days this past week without a package so its been pretty awsome.  I know i need to enjoy it while i can.  I have a pile of sweets that need to disappear before tommorrow morning at about 4:30.  So thanks a lot to everybody that contributed there it has been wonderful.

So i think i ended my email last week complaining about how they are working on the bleachers in the gym so none of the general authorities come for devotionals because they can only fit like 1000 missionaries in there.  Well after i got done with the letter a little voice came over the intercom saying that they were temporarily opening the seats for tonight.  Well obviously at that point excitment began to build and rumors started flying like crazy.  We got to the devotional 1 hour early and we were about number 2000 in line and the place holds about 2500.  We did get in and we did get seats so that was the good news.  Since missionaries always come so early to devotionals and firesides in order to keep us from being too loud and obnoxious they have us sing prelude hymns.  Right before we began the prelude hymns one of the devotional directors got up and said "We will now begin the prelude music.  Remember that we do not stand for the sake of the hymns. It is, however, appropriate to stand if a member of the first presidency or one of the brethren enter the room."  He then sat back down with a smug little smile on his face.  So of course the place errupted with more rumors and theories and all sorts of chatter.  The excitement at that point was at a breaking point.  Sure enough as we were in the second of verse of "Armies of Heleman" everybody began to stand.  I started jumping up and down and looking left and right to see who it was.  Finally through all the heads of everybody i made out the profile of Elder Holland walking up onto the stand!  So i had a silent freak out session to get my excitment out and sat back down.  Elder Holland just has a way with speaking.  I think his gift on earth is to use his words and testimony to persuade others to step up and do good things in this world.  He talked about how hard a mission is going to be.  I must not be in the hard part yet because life is pretty easy here at the MTC.  I get like 40 people to commit to baptism every day.  Of course i am teaching only other missionaries lol.  Anyways i'm sure the hard times will come.  His talk was great maybe if i get a chance i will photocopy my notes and sent them home.  If not i will definitely save them.  The coolest part about the whole thing is they are keeping the seats open for this tuesday too! and then shutting them down.  I'm feeling like its going to be the prophet.  Idk for sure but it would be awsome!

I ran into a couple more familiar faces this week!  One was another one of my buddies from BYUH who was in my ward who is going to FIJI crazy stuff.  Also mom and dad idk if you remember Elder Voikadavou who served his mission in our area.  Anyways i ran into him in the cafeteria one day it was kind of crazy.  I guess he is a teacher now!  He is teaching Fijian to a senior couple.

Well i guess i should take this chance to tell you a little bit about my Maestros (Teachers).  First is Hermana De Leon.  She is a native from Guatemala so she has kind of a slurry spanish.  I can pick up the gist of what she is saying as long is she is speaking somewhat clearly but when she gets into her little zones im totally lost.  I usually just sit there and nod my head and pretend like i know whats going on lol.  My other teacher is Hermano Ah Sue.  He is from California and served spanish speakin in Texas.  His spanish is much easier to understand because its clearer and because its more Americanized lol.  Hermano Ah Sue is pretty much like a Mormon version of Bryon Reagan.  I dont really know how else to describe him.  he's a real funny guy.  I have picutres with both of them i will send home at some point.  If you could send me another memory card that would be awsome so that i can switch them out and send one home.  I'm not going to have much for resources at the CCM (Peru) because its a really small MTC.  From what i hear we get to leave once a week and do real world things like watch movies and go to arcades.  lol just joking but for reals we get to go shopping and stuff i think.  We also get to do real life contacting once a week.  I'm not going to lie im a little nervous for that one.

Language is coming i taught the first lesson in spanish pretty fluently i can testify pray and teach and thats about it right now.  I'm sure the rest will come soon enough.

Make sure that you have put my new address on facebook so people can send me letters i told everyone to look there so please put it as my status.  ummm... yes and see if dear elder works at the other MTC and let me know and if it does let everyone know with my facebook.

So thanks for the Ohenries i have had the ones i brought plus the ones you sent plus two pans that kierea has sent so needless to say ive had my fill! thank you!  In the process several elders in my district have become completely addicted to them haha

I think the best bet is to call you from SLC as soon as i get there that way i can talk to everyone at once.  That is of course if i can get my phonecard to work i tried to call when i arrived there and i couldnt figure it out.  If i cant in the morning then ill try from Dallas a little later on so keep your cell phones on you and what not.  IT could be as early as 430 or 5 so be prepared to answere please

Tell Kelly thank you so much for making the blog it sounds pretty cool from what i hear.  I appreceate it!:)  well unfortunately I am out of time love you all I will maybe talk to you tommorrow get some good questions to ask me so i can tell you the anseres!  and please keep your phones on you!

Email 8/24/10

Hello Family!
Well the principle i applied and learned about this week was ask and ye shall recieve.  Thanks for all of the packages and all of the letters its been great.  I also got packages from Chelsey and Kierea as well.  To say the least i've had to loosen the belt a little bit.  I decided im going to enjoy the food while i can because im not too sure what there is going to be when i get down to Peru.
In order to explain everything that happens here in a week would take hours and right now i have 21 minutes until i get kicked off the computer so here goes.  Me and Elder Simmons have been working very hard at improving our spanish.  We plan on teaching the full length first lesson in Spanish tommorrow.  Hopefully to some native speakers.  We were taught by some native speakers yesterday and it was a real good experience.  I actually had a span of 2 or three minutes where i understood every single word that came out of this particular elders mouth and trust me when i say he was going a million miles an hour.  So the language is improving.  sometimes we will set aside time where we are only allowed to talk in spanish and that is very difficult and fristrating to do somewtimes because there are some words and phrases i just dont know.  But it will come.  I have started to only read my spanish book of mormon durring personal study and look up the words i dont know.  My understanding has increases by quite a bit since i started doing this.  It seems like my understanding is getting a lot better but i still cant speak worth jack.  I guess ive only been ehre two weeks even though it feels like longer.
It kind of stinks because there are no general authorities coming here right now because the gym is under construction.  It also stinks because we cant play basketball.  But we get to play a lot of sand volleyball and stuff so that is fun.  This week we also got to go to the refurral center and make calls for the first time.  It was really nerve racking but fun too.  I didnt really get any bites but i tried.  Thank you for my license by the way i got it yesterday.
Well the spiritual highs here come every time after i'm teaching.  It doesnt matter what kind of mood im in when i start but when i get done teaching i always feel like a mission dollars.
I also have run into about 7 friends from BYUH here.  I was only expecting one or two so thats been a little bit of a treat.  There is also an Elder in my district his name is Elder Lautaha.  He is from Laie too.  He is a way cool Elder and we have a lot of fun talking about Hawaii and stuff together.  We know a lot of the same people too so that makes it fun.
As for my companion.  He is doing well.  He has only been a member for 17 months now so i am amazed at his example.  So far we do well together teaching and we more or less get along.  Gym time stinks because he always has to do what i do and he is athletically uninclined to say the least.  But all in all things are good with him.
Two days ago i got my travel plans for Peru.  Im leaving 8 days from today.  I will be flying from Salt Lake To Atlanta and Atlanta to Lima.  I need my Lima Adress sent via dearelder.com to me asap please that would be amazing.
Also please do not email me this week.  I only get 30 minutes a week so it saves time if you send me a letter through dearelder.com  that way i can take my time reading it.
As for my health im doing much better.  I got a blessing last tuesday and by friday i was pretty much over it.  Im feeling great now and i am more concentrated on working than staying healthy which is nice
Also thank Kelly for me for the Garments i was in dire need the day they came so the timeing worked out perfectly thank you so much!
Today i got to go to the temple for the second time since i've been here.  Its such an awsome experience i love going to the temple.  Feelings that i get there just can't be described.  It seems like all problems and worries just go away and i can just focus on what is important.
I have a little preasent i will be sending home by Thursday or Friday so it should get to you some time next week so you have that to look forward to.
Also thank you for the pictures! that was awsome i really wanted to bring some with me and i had forgotten to.
Well My time is almost up I love you all have a great week!
